Recommendations
Some recommendations on using Deskman.
Use a password
Protecting Deskman with password is highly recommended.
- Open the setup window to change the password.
Security Levels
- Deskman provides you with a high number of combinations to secure your system. Use the File | Save Profile menu to manage multiple security levels.
- Select carefully the restrictions to be applied: higher level of security = lower system control.
- Make use of one of the default profiles if you're not sure of what to do to secure the system.
- Lock the desktop to protect desktop icons. Backup your icons, first!
User Access
- Administrators can disable restrictions by opening Deskman, unchecking boxes and pressing secure. Some restrictions, though, need a system reboot to be enabled/disabled.
- Administrators can also be included in the User Exceptions list, thus having full desktop access whenever they log in for maintenance tasks.
- Use the web interface to load profiles and check your system status.
Backup your data
Maintaining your configuration and profiles could be time-consuming. Backup your data.
- Backup Icons : Save your desktop icons into a different location, just in case.
- Export : Save your data file into a different location.
- Import : Restore your saved data into Deskman when upgrading, deploying, or when necessary.
Optimize Windows for a fast startup
To make sure Deskman is started fast enough at Windows startup, your system should be in good shape.
- Uninstall unused programs.
- Check what programs are configured to run during system bootup or login. Remove unused programs.
- Defragment your hard drive from time to time.
